western news sources are calling what took place here “clashes”
tell me - do you see a clash of equal forces? or do you see israeli soldiers pushing elderly grandparents down stairs, beating women unprovoked, firing live ammunition and grenades inside a place of worship, and worshippers ducking for cover as soldiers indiscriminately fire at them?
may the occupation and it’s lies and evils come to an end.
Ukrainian illustrator Oksana Drachkovska dedicated her illustration to 11-year-old gymnast Kateryna Dyachenko, who died in the russian shelling in Mariupol.
The photos from the liberated towns and villages around Kyiv are a chilling sight. Civillians shot dead in the back of the head, hands tied behind their backs, killed in a kneeling position. Bodies with marks of torture on them. These are no “civillian casualities” but premeditated mass executions. In Bucha the invaders shot every man 16-60 y.o. they found. In Motyzhyn they took the family of the local mayor to a ravine, shot everyone, and burried them there.
Putin didn`t do that. Someone`s father, husband, boyfriend, son did that.
Another terrifying aspect of the war crimes revealed is a huge scale of sexual violence (a story from the Guardian).
At the same time, one can see the footage of Russian soldiers
mailing home their “loot” from Ukrainians’ homes: kitchen appliances, carpets, toys, jewellery, kids’ and women’s clothes. In leaked phone calls with their families, their wives and mothers are asking for specific items to loot and mail to them, and cheering their sons on their kills and raping <russian slur for
Ukrainian women>.
Putin didn’t do that. There are tens of thousands people raiding Ukraine and committing war crimes right now, and they are doing it willingly and inventively. And there are many, many more people back in Russia cheering them on.

If you’d like to directly support Ukrainian artists and crafters right now, here’s a suggestion: get on Etsy, search for digital sewing, knitting, and needlework patterns, and filter your search to shops located in Ukraine.
I’m going to list shop names rather than linking directly, so this post won’t get filtered out of tumblr search results. Just add dot etsy dot com to see their shops.

A great list of orgs to donate to from Dr. Timothy Snyder, history professor at Yale, and fascism expert. (If you don’t have his “On Tyranny” handbook, you should fix that (now also available in a graphic version).)

“Maybe there aren’t any such things as good friends or bad friends - maybe there are just friends, people who stand by you when you’re hurt and who help you feel not so lonely. Maybe they’re always worth being scared for, and hoping for, and living for. Maybe worth dying for too, if that’s what has to be. No good friends. No bad friends. Only people you want, need to be with; people who build their houses in your heart.”
